New DA Photo Guidelines Create Army Buzz

A new Army policy regarding what is “acceptable” for official DA photos has caused quite a stir in many circles.

Dubbed the “Duck Lips Policy” the new change allows soldier to pose in more relaxed poses and facial expressions. Traditionally, even smiling is frowned upon in these rather formal photographs.

The new policy hopes to allow soldiers to, “express their individuality,” when getting their DA¬†photographs taken. Ben Allen, spokesperson for Army psychiatry, claims that, “the absence of being an individual is actually detrimental to the Army’s long-term goal; which is the retention of good soldiers. This small step is a great way for soldiers to express themselves and for promotion review boards to truly see a side of the soldier that the wear and appearance of uniform and awards can’t possibly show.”

We will keep you up to date on this developing story and we encourage you to post your DA Photo Pose to our Facebook page.
