General Dempsey’s Plane Struck by Rockets – Now to Receive Silver Star

Citing his heroic acts, the Army announced today that the Chair of Joint Chiefs of Staff will be receiving the Silver Star following the rocket attack on his aircraft at Bagram Airbase.

At the time of the attack the General was attending a meeting and at no time was in direct danger according to staff present at the time. When the General was alerted he calmly stated that he had to get back to Washington as soon as possible, urging that he forgot to set Tivo to record “Stars Earn Stripes”.

During the attack, which lasted seconds, the General stayed, “as cool as a cucumber,” according to the General’s Aide-de-Camp, CPT Nichols.

After switching planes the General was able to disembark and reportedly didn’t missĀ “Stars Earn Stripes”.

The two air crew that were injured were rumored to be receiving a commander’s coin for their efforts.
